From St. Philip Neri Principal, Kelly England Each day at 7:45am, the intercom turns on and a group of eighth grade students play a song. That is the cue for all staff and students to make their way to the gym for our Morning Assembly. After taking a year and half off from our traditional Morning Assembly routine due to Covid protocols, we joyfully added it back to the schedule in January!
After just a few weeks of readjusting to the routine, our students now come down singing along to the music. A group of three second grade girls began asking to help with the prayer each morning. Soon, that group grew to include about ten second grade students, who have taken over getting our assembly started. They do a countdown to get everyone quieted down. They start the assembly with a prayer, lead everyone in the pledge, and tell us the joke of the day before turning the microphone back over to me for announcements and birthday celebrations. We didn’t realize how much we had missed this opportunity to come together as a school community!
In addition to daily announcements and birthday celebrations, the assembly also gives us the opportunity to recognize students who have shown the core values of seek, persist, excel, love, and serve. Recognizing students for going above and beyond to serve the school community often inspires others to do the same. Being able to join as a school certainly helps get each day started off in the right way. We are so grateful to have been able to add this important part of our day here at St. Philip Neri back onto the schedule!
If you are ever in need of some sheer joy to start your day, please come and to join us at 7:45am!
